Types of Articles

There are five types of Articles you can create in WebPress:

Types of Articles

FIXME

  • When creating or modifying an article, you choose a type. (Normal is selected by default.) The other types you can choose from are Link to URL, Link to Action, Link to Article, and Link to File. You will see the appropriate options depending on the Type you choose.
  • Content

    • Most of the articles on your site will be Content articles. Content articles have a content that you enter with the editor and a summary. The article's title will appear in the site sidemenu (unless other settings are used), and clicking the link to the article will display the article's content.
    • To create a Content article, please see Create an Article.
    • The Link to URL type will create a link to any URL that you specify. This can be a link to a specific page on your site or a specific address of any site on the Web.
    • If you would like this link to open in a new window, click the checkbox that says Open link in new browser window. When using the Link (URL) type to link to other websites, it is recommended that you make the link open in a new window. This will keep your users on your website and allow them to just close the new window when they are ready to continue browsing your site. Don't rely on your users' back button to help them return to your site.
    • Next, enter the full address of the webpage you are linking to. The protocol (http://) part of the URL is required. The box should already contain "http://"

    Link to Action

    • The Action type will create a link to a page generated from a WebPress module. These modules include: Calendar, Contacts, Links, News, Search Form, Store, and User Account Login Form.
    • If you would like this link to open in a new window, click the checkbox that says Open link in new browser window.
    • Choose an option from the drop-down list.

    • The Link to Article type will create a link that points to another article on your site. This is useful for creating multiple links in different places that point to the same page.
    • If you would like this link to open in a new window, click the checkbox that says Open link in new browser window.
    • Choose the article you would like to link to. Only Normal articles will appear in this list.

    • The Link to File type will create a link pointing to a file from your repository.
    • Choose the file you'd like to link to from the drop-down menu.
Note: Even these types of articles can have a Summary. The summary is useful if the article you create is a sub-article of something else, and you choose the Link to Article via Header (w/ Summary) option when creating your article. This helps make your site's sidemenu less cluttered and give your users more of a description of where this link will take them.
