Insert Images

The graphical editor allows you to insert images and format their appearance on the page.

Note:
When inserting images into the editor, you will choose an image from your file repository to insert. If the image you wish to insert is not in your file repository, you may upload it directly from your computer to the repository before inserting the image.

Inserting an image from the Repository

  • Click on the picture icon in the toolbar.
  • The Insert/Modify Image window will appear.
  • Click on the filename of the image you wish to insert. Once you click the filename, the image will appear in the preview box.

  • Dimensions

If you wish to resize your image, choose a reasonable size to adjust the image to. Be sure to make your new dimensions proportional to the original size. We recommend resizing an image when uploading the file instead of adjusting the dimensions here.

  • Spacing

Enter a number of pixels for horizontal and vertical spacing. Horizontal spacing puts spacing to the left and right of the image; vertical spacing pads the top and bottom of the image. 5 px on each side usually provides adequate spacing. See the pixel size chart above.

  • Layout

Chose an alignment for your image. Left (or Right) will make the image float to the left (or right) side of the page with text wrapping around the image. Choosing nothing will make the image appear inline with the rest of the text.

Top, Middle, and Bottom determine how an inline image aligns with the other words on the same line.

  • Border Thickness

  • Enter a border thickness in pixels. Entering "1" will produce a very thin border around the image. Most users will want to use 0, 1, or 2.

  • Users who are familiar with Javascript may click on the Advanced tab of the Insert Image box and may further manipulate images there.

Inserting a Photo from the Web

  • Click on the picture icon in the toolbar.
  • If you want to insert an image from elsewhere on the Web, enter the full URL of the image under Image URL.
  • Add Alternate Text for the iamge. Alternate Text will display if the image is broken or if the image cannot be displayed, such as when search engine robots view your site. Alternate Text will also be displayed as a tooltip when the mouse is hovered over the image.

Uploading a New Photo

  • Click on the picture icon in the toolbar. Click Add new Image. The Add Image dialog box will appear.
  • Click the Browse button to find the file on your computer.
  • Choose a Directory where the new file will be located in your file repository.
  • To add a new directory to the repository, click Add New Directory.
    • Enter the name of the directory you want to create.
    • Choose a parent directory under which the new directory will be located.
  • Click the Upload button. After you click the Upload button once, your file will be uploaded. This may take a few moments depending on the size of the file and your connection speed. You will not see any change until the file is uploaded.
  • After the file is uploaded, click Done to return to the original dialog box. Your image will now appear in the list of images in your file repository. Now you may follow the above directions to insert the image from the repository.

Edit an Image

  • Once you have inserted your image, you can change the image's properties by clicking the image in the graphical editor to select it, and then right click the image to display the context menu.
  • Choose Properties from the context menu.
  • Note:
Some popup blockers may block the dialog box from loading from this context menu. If you have this problem in Internet Explorer, hold the Ctrl key when you click Properties to get around it.
  • The dialog box that appears will be the same as the dialog box you used to isnert the iamge. From here, you may change the layout, spacing, and other properties.
  • Note:
The graphical editor will allow you to resize images within its content. This is not recommended for a couple of reasons. If you insert a large image and manually resize the image within this context, the image file itself remains the same. Your site's visitors will be forced to download the large image, even though it is being displayed at a smaller size. To copy and resize an image file withing your file repository, see Copying/Renaming/Resizing Files.
